For long-term storage, champagne is best stored laying on its side in a cool, dark place with consistent temperature (ideally between 10–13 °C; max 15 °C) and humidity. 

• Do not store champagne in the refrigerator long term: the lack of humidity can cause the cork to dry out, potentially allowing the wine to oxidise, altering its flavour profile.
• Do not store champagne in natural sunlight or artificial light: this will heat the wine and cause it to become stale.
• Store champagne in an undisturbed space: frequent vibrations will agitate the wine and affect its flavour profile and ageing potential.
• For champagne bottles that are delivered in orange cellophane wrapping, do not remove this protective wrapping when storing. It is an anti-UV cellophane wrapping used to protect against lightstrike for clear glass bottles.

If you are faced with the problem of not being able to finish a bottle, it can be kept fresh in the fridge for a day or two with a champagne stopper.

Opening a bottle of champagne always has an element of ceremony, but it should be a quiet, smooth and safe process. There is considerable pressure in a bottle of champagne (corks have been measured erupting at speeds of up to 80 km/h!), so it is very important to hold the cork securely once the wire cage is loosened and until the cork has been safely eased out.

• Find the tab or the perforated section on the foil cap and gently remove
• Holding the bottle with one hand, secure the wire cage (muselet) with your thumb.
• Using your other hand, unwind the wire loop (6 turns anticlockwise) and loosen the wire cage away from the bottle slightly, but do not remove it.
• Keeping a firm grip on the cork and wire cage, tilt the bottle at a 30- to 45-degree angle. With the other hand, grip the base of the bottle and gently rotate the bottle until a quiet ‘hiss’ escapes.

To ensure that your premium Lehmann glassware is in the perfect condition to allow you to fully enjoy your next drink, there are a few simple tips to keep in mind when cleaning them.

• Gently wash glasses by hand, without detergent, and rinse thoroughly under warm water so that they are residue- and stain-free.
• Air-dry glassware upside down on a linen tea towel and gently polish them when dry. A small amount of steam on the glass can provide a bit of friction to help with polishing.
• When polishing, be careful not to twist the glass against the stem, as this can cause breakages. 

When polishing, use Sally Hillman’s microfibre polishing cloth: a luxurious and specialised accessory boasting a generous size to buff and boost brilliance for that final touch of stemware sophistication. Lint-free, scratch-free, odour-free and easy to clean, Sally Hillman’s signature polishing cloth is complimentary with every Lehmann Glass set of 6.

Avoid using fabric softener to clean your polishing cloths because synthetic fragrances and residue may be left on the glass.

All Lehmann glasses are now also dishwasher safe.

• If using a dishwasher, we recommend selecting a glass program and ensuring that the load is only glassware.
• Use only minimal detergent to avoid leaving residue, as this can interfere with beading in champagne and also taint the flavour.

If you are not cleaning your glasses right away, put a bit of water in the glass so that stains do not become hard to clean later.
