A 100% Chardonnay champagne heralding from the eponymous lieu-dit (single parcel of vines) in the Côte des Blancs, Le Grand Jardin 2015 is only the second iteration following 2014’s inaugural vintage. Vines were planted by sélection massale (the traditional practice of vineyard propagation with exceptional old vines) in the heart of Oger terroir in 1967, and they rest in soils of brown clay on chalk and limestone shards. Fruit is vinified in French oak barrels, undergoing 8 months maturation on lees before bottling. Ageing occurs under cork for 5 years, allowing for further micro-oxygenation, creating a phenomenal vintage Blanc de Blancs champagne with a richer, creamier texture and with great complexity and integration of flavour.
Neither fined nor filtered, Le Grand Jardin 2015 was manually disgorged in December 2021 and finished with zero dosage. Only 2024 bottles were produced.
The clear glass bottle is packaged in wrapping paper to protect against lightstrike. Please do not remove the protective paper when storing.
The perfume is lithe and expressive as aromas of violet and nougat twine around firm pillars of vanilla cream and biscuit, rippling elegantly in a luxurious tulip glass. A splash of splendour on the palate: tangerine, dried apple and marzipan, spring-boarding off a well-integrated line of acidity to land afloat on a bed of cream, sun-dried banana and wafer. The palatial finish is long and mineral with plenty of stone fruit reflections. Vinous and velvety, the experience of tasting Le Grand Jardin feels as though time has drawn to a delicious halt.
