Champagne Jm Sélèque

Founded in 1965, the House has been under the tutelage of third-generation vigneron Jean-Marc Sélèque since 2008. Based in the Premier Cru village of Pierry in the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, Jean-Marc renamed the estate and built a new winery in 2015 with a vision of crafting champagnes with precise terroir expression.

The House farms 9ha of vines over 45 plots across seven villages in the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. The average age of vines is 40 years and plantings are composed of 50% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier and 10% Pinot noir. Jean-Marc applies organic viticulture and minimal intervention practices to gently encourage full and pure expression of the estate’s diverse vineyard soils which is reflected in the name of the core Solessence cuvées, translating to ‘essence of the soil’. Music is another passion of the House, symbolised with a musical score on the label of the vintage cuvée Partition. Like an orchestra’s conductor, Jean-Marc explains, ‘our champagne blends are the fruit of a musical score, whose notes are imbued with the climate, labour, patience, expertise, origin and history of our vineyards. As humble performers, we present the music to you’—‘After all, isn’t champagne the most musical of wines?’.
